Ukraine will receive between 120 and 140 tanks in a “first wave” of deliveries from the 12-nation coalition, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Tuesday.
Recall that this month the West promised Kiev to supply battle tanks in the context of the large-scale efforts of Russian troops to launch an offensive in eastern Ukraine.
“The Tank Coalition has 12 members today. I can only note that during the first wave of contributions, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive 120-140 units of modern tanks of Western models,” Kuleba said during an online briefing.
The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stressed that Kiev was trying to encourage more countries to provide tanks at a critical moment in the war.
“…We continue to work both to expand the ‘tank coalition’ and to increase contributions from participants who have already committed,” he added.
Kiev plans to launch a major counter-offensive to retake Russian-occupied territories in the south and east of the country.
The United States has asked Kiev not to launch a counter-offensive until Western military aid arrives in Ukraine.
Ukraine fears that Russia will launch its own major offensive in the coming weeks or months.
