Oglashe sentence in Karakalpakstan events case – Reuters

The court issued the verdict in the case of the Nukus events: Dauletmurat Tazhimuratov was sentenced to 16 years, Lolagul Kallykhanova was sentenced to 8 years, and together with Azamat Nuratdinov, Akhmet Smetullaev and Azamat Turdanov were released from prison. The others are sentenced to deprivation or restriction of liberty.

Berdakh Genzhebaev (b. 1996) was found guilty of article 164, part 2, paragraph “b” (rape by a group of people by prior agreement) and article 227, part 2, paragraph “a” ( possession, destruction, damage or concealment of documents, stamps, seals), forms, national registration plates of motor vehicles and their trailers (semi-trailers), made in connection with a passport or identity card, a military ticket or any other important personal document or in connection with documents, stamps, seals, forms of particular importance) CC.
The court sentenced him to 5 years of restricted freedom and a suspended “house arrest”. According to my account, the length of the house arrest was reduced to 4 years, 10 months and 11 days.
The prosecutor requested a restriction of freedom for 3 years.

Nurlan Sultamuratov (b. 1998) was convicted under part 3 of article 244 (organization of mass riots, accompanied by violence against persons, pogroms, arson, damage or destruction of property, resistance to a representative of the authorities with the use or threat of use of weapons or other objects used as weapons, as well as active participation in mass riots) under the Criminal Code and sentenced to 3 years imprisonment. The prosecutor requested 5 years in prison.
According to this article (part 3 of article 244 of the Penal Code):

Polat Nurniyazov (born in 1986) – 4 years imprisonment;

Kaharman Seytimov – 5 years imprisonment;

Saiypnazar Kalimov (born in 1980) and Arsylan Temirkhanov (born in 1986) – 6 years’ imprisonment;

Amirbek Adilbekov (born in 1993) – 7 years imprisonment.

Former Head of Criminal Investigation Department of Karakalpakstan Interior Ministry, Karakalpakstan’s first and only President Dauletbaya Shamshetova (b. 1977) was convicted under Part 3 of Article 244 of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment with the right to hold positions of material responsibility, including in internal affairs bodies, for 3 years.

Blogger and founder of the Ayama.uz site Bakhtiyar Kadirbergenov (b. 1986) was found guilty under part 3 of article 244 and point “d” of part 3 of article 277 (hooliganism related to resistance to a representative of the authorities or the public, exercising functions for the protection of public order, or citizens who prevent hooligan behavior) under the Penal Code and sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment.


Saidabulla Medetov (b. 1989) and pensioner Nurlan Nayipov (b. 1968), the head of the “For the Future” farm, were convicted under part 3 of article 244 and points “a , d” of article 244-1 (the production, storage, distribution or demonstration of material containing a threat to public security and public order, carried out by prior agreement or by a group of persons; using official position; using mass media or telecommunications networks, as well as the Internet) United Kingdom . The court sentenced each of them to 7 years in prison.

Allabay Tokimbetov (1973) was convicted under part 3 of article 244 of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 8.5 years of imprisonment.
The court established that the sentences of persons found guilty of deprivation of liberty are calculated from the day of their imprisonment.

Azamat Nuratdinov, a former teacher of Muynak District School No. 9 and blogger, was found guilty under Part 3 of Article 244 and point “a” of Part 3 of Article 244- 1 of the Penal Code and sentenced to 5 years in prison, suspended. Azamat Nuratdinov could not hold back his tears after the announcement of the sentence and his release.

Azamat Turdanov (1984), the former director of the Olympic Reserve Nukus College, was acquitted under Article 159, Part 4, but found guilty under Article 244, Part 3 of the Penal Code. For this, he received 5 years of restriction of freedom with deprivation of the right to hold materially responsible positions for three years. The judge dismissed Nuratdinov, Smetullaev and Turdanov and decided to release them. This solution triggered applause and shouts of joy in the room.

Lolagul Kallykhanova (1989), journalist, founder of the Makan.uz website, was found guilty under part 4 of article 159 (conspiracy to seize power or overthrow the constitutional order of the Republic of Uzbekistan) of part 3 of article 244 (organization of mass unrest, accompanied by violence against the person, pogroms, arson, damage or destruction of property, resistance to a representative authorities with use or threat of use of weapons or other objects used as weapons, as well as active participation in mass riots) and the “a”, “b”, “d” of article 244- 1 (production, storage, distribution or demonstration of materials threatening public security and public order, carried out by prior agreement or by a group of persons; using official position; using mass media or telecommunication networks, as well as the Internet).
The court sentenced her to 8 years imprisonment with a probation period of 3 years. Due to the fact that Kallykhanova was in custody, the sentence was reduced to 7 years, 5 months and 6 days. The prosecutor requested 11 years in prison. She was also released by the court.

The judge sentenced him to 16 years in prison. The prosecutor requested 18 years in prison. The accused must spend the first 2 years of the sentence in prison, and the rest of the sentence – in a strict regime colony.
The charge against Tazhimuratov, Kallykhanova, Turdanova, Smetullaev and Dzhiemuratov under point “a” of part 3 of article 104 to article 28 (participation in intentional grievous bodily harm, caused to two or more persons ) of the Criminal Code was dismissed due to lack of proof of Bekmuratova’s guilt, and Kaipova was acquitted under clause “a”, part 3 of article 104, and Nuratdinova – under clause ” d”, part 3 of article 244-1.
In addition, taking into account the compensation of 256 million soums out of the 6.8 billion soums of damage caused as a result of the crimes committed, the remaining 6.5 billion soums will be collected from the convicts jointly and severally, and Tazhimuratov will be also accused of “waste”. “228 million soums. The assets of the defendants, seized in the criminal case, will be directed to compensation for damages.
The protests in Karakalpakstan began after the publication of the new draft Constitution in Uzbekistan, which excluded Karakalpakstan’s sovereign status and its right to withdraw from the republic.
The events in Nukus became the bloodiest in the history of independent Uzbekistan after the events in Andijan in 2005.
According to information provided by the Uzbek authorities, 21 people died and 243 people, including law enforcement officers, were injured during the demonstrations in Nukus on 1 and 2 July. 500 people have been arrested this year.
After large-scale unrest in Karakalpakstan, the head of Tashkent announced the withdrawal of controversial amendments. The country’s authorities accused the foreign forces of causing the riots.
