Ukraine has called on France to provide it with fighter jets

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov traveled to Paris for talks with French leaders, during which he called for the supply of fighter jets to Kiev to help the armed forces counter the invasion Russian that has been going on for almost a year.

Ukrainian officials are urging Western allies to deploy fighter jets to better respond to Russian attacks, but so far the response to those calls has been wary.

Asked by journalists whether France would consider sending fighter jets to Ukraine, French President Emmanuel Macron said “nothing is ruled out” but laid down several conditions for this.

Paris insists in particular on the fact that the equipment provided must not strike Russian territory, must not lead to an escalation of tension or “weaken the potential of the French army”.

US President Joe Biden said on Monday that the United States would not supply Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets.

France has, however, agreed to supply Ukraine with another 12 Caesar self-propelled artillery mounts to fight Russia, Defense Minister Sebastian Lecornu said in Paris. Previously, France had already delivered 18 units of this type.
