New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu said Sunday he plans to run for president in 2024, adding he believes Donald Trump would lose to President Joe Biden if he wins his party’s nomination.
Sununu, who has been governor of New Hampshire since 2017, stressed the need for a new leadership to come to power.
Speaking on ABC, Sununu said he is considering running for office.
“There are going to be a lot of Republicans running in this race,” he said. “They are all very good people. They are really good candidates.”
Sununu named former US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and current Florida Governor Ron DeSantis among those he believes will run for the 2024 Republican nomination. Trump , the only declared candidate, announced his candidacy in November. Haley is expected to launch her campaign this month.
According to Sununu, Trump will again lose to Biden if he receives a partisan nomination.
“Unfortunately, in the end – November 2020 showed us that, didn’t it? Trump will be seen as an extremely extreme candidate. The country will resist this,” Sununu said, adding that he adheres to the principle of individual freedom and believed that the role of government should be as limited as possible.
Her father John Sununu, who served as governor of New Hampshire from 1989 to 1991, served as White House chief of staff under Republican President George W. Bush.
Recall that the Democratic National Committee on Saturday approved Biden’s proposed reorganization of his party’s primary schedule for 2024 – now the first Democratic primaries will be held in South Carolina instead of New Hampshire.
