The Russian minister noted that “there is a big crisis in the WTO”. According to Lavrov, China honestly follows all the rules of this organization that govern its activities. Even when there were questions in Beijing, the Chinese side, as expected, explained its position in the dispute settlement body. “Playing on a field created by the United States, <…> it (the People’s Republic of China – note “RG”) began to beat them according to their own rules,” Lavrov noted. The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that in terms of GDP at power parity of purchase, China already ranks first in the world. At the same time, Lavrov suggested that already in the current decade the Chinese will overtake Washington in such an indicator as GDP per capita – this is evidenced by forecasts even the more cautious.
Lavrov recalled in detail the measures taken by the Americans within the WTO to contain China. “There is a point in the WTO, which is formulated in a very general way, which allows countries to impose sanctions in the event of existential threats to the security of states. Everything can be summed up in that,” said the head of Russian diplomacy. According to him, another problem of the world’s main trade organization is “the complete paralysis of the work of the same WTO dispute settlement body”. In particular, the Americans are manipulating the quorum of this body, hindering the recruitment of the required number of participating states to bring cases against the United States. Thus, Washington ignores the comments and questions addressed to it. Especially from China. “It is the discrimination of Chinese goods in the American market that is now Washington’s main task in its drive to weaken everyone. And Europe, which it has already brought to the brink of deindustrialization. Documents, “the main challenge that we must accept and prevent China from becoming the number one power. Well, compete honestly, don’t allow it. Here is all the prohibited stuff below the belt,” said the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
