Russia launches missile strikes on Ukraine overnight

– Published on:

The Russian military launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine on Thursday evening.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian planes and ships fired 32 cruise missiles, 14 of which were shot down. “Part of the Kh-22 cruise missiles hit their targets by hitting critical infrastructure. Currently, there are no weapons in service capable of destroying this type of missile.

The impact killed a 79-year-old woman in Pavlovgrad in the Dnipropetrovsk region, local authorities said. Seven people were injured, two of whom were hospitalized. Several residential buildings were destroyed, an industrial enterprise was damaged. “A terrible night in Pavlograd. At three o’clock after midnight, while people were sleeping peacefully in their homes, the enemy fired missiles at the city,” Dnepropetrovsk regional administration chief Serhiy Lysak said in a statement.

Attacks were also reported in Poltava, Lvov and Kirovograd regions. The authorities of the Lviv region reported the defeat of an infrastructure.

Andrii Yermak, head of the Ukrainian president’s office, said Russia was changing tactics when launching missile strikes, carrying out active reconnaissance and using false targets. The Russian Defense Ministry has not yet commented on the strikes.

The previous, more massive missile attack on Ukraine was carried out on February 10, again hitting energy facilities.

The Russian-appointed governor of the annexed city of Sevastopol said Thursday morning that several Ukrainian drones were shot down as they approached the city. The Ukrainian side has not yet commented on this.
