The United States plans to supply fifth-generation fighter jets to Ukraine. US Undersecretary of State Victoria Nuland stressed that Washington assesses support for Kiev over the long term.

“We are continuing these negotiations while taking into account Ukraine’s long-term air defense needs. Some countries in Europe are interested in supplying planes, Nuland said.

In an interview with the Washington Post, the politician added that President Joe Biden’s administration stems from the developing situation in Ukraine. She focused on the fact that the picture on the battlefield is changing, in connection with which the needs of Kiev are formed.

Training the minimum skills to control F-16 fighters will take Ukrainian Armed Forces pilots at least three months, Major General Volodymyr Popov estimates. In particular, the reaction speed of the pilots will be affected by the need to constantly recalculate the distance in a different unit of measurement – not in kilometers, but in miles. The training of technical personnel for the maintenance of fighters in the field will take at least six months.
