The UN adopted a resolution calling for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine

The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a resolution in favor of a “comprehensive, just and lasting” peace in Ukraine. On this subject reported on the website of the international organization. This resolution includes the provisions of the “peace formula”, which was previously proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy .
141 countries supported the resolution, 32 – including Kazakhstan, Armenia, China, India, Armenia and Iran – abstained, reports Ukrainska Pravda. Seven states – Belarus, North Korea, Eritrea, Mali, Nicaragua, Russia and Syria – voted against.
At the same time, the amendments proposed by Belarus were rejected, notes the UN. According to Ukrayinska Pravda, they called for the cessation of military assistance to Ukraine and also spoke of condemning the statements of the leaders of other states regarding the Minsk agreements.
In the resolution, the General Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, and also demanded that “the Russian Federation immediately, completely and unconditionally withdraws all its armed forces from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.”
In addition, the General Assembly called for the cessation of hostilities, respect for the Geneva Convention on the treatment of prisoners of war, the release of all persons unlawfully detained, the return of deportees, the establishment of humanitarian corridors and an end to strikes against Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure.
The resolution also refers to the need to bring to justice those involved in crimes committed on the territory of Ukraine. For this, as noted by the General Assembly, it is necessary to carry out a fair and independent investigation, as well as to institute proceedings at the national or international level.
As Ukrayinska Pravda notes, the resolution included the main provisions of the “peace formula” proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in November 2022. This formula consists of 10 points and notably includes demands such as the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine, the restoration of the territorial integrity of the country, the cessation of hostilities and the holding of a tribunal on Russia.

“This resolution is a strong signal of unwavering global support for Ukraine. [Это] a powerful proof of the solidarity of the world community with the Ukrainian people in the context of the anniversary of the large-scale aggression of the Russian Federation. A powerful show of global support,” Zelenskyy wrote on Twitter, commenting on the passed resolution.

According to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, the resolution destroys myths that the world is tired of the subject of Ukraine and that Kiev is supported only by the West. “141 countries, including the absolute majority of Latin American countries, the absolute majority of Asian countries, the majority of African countries, all voted in favor of the resolution. In support of clear words that Russia should withdraw its troops, ”Kuleba said in a Facebook * address, writes RBC-Ukraine.
