US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken expressed skepticism about China’s proposed peace plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyyyy approached the initiative with caution, reports Moskovsky Komsomolets.

According to The Guardian, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken saw China’s call for a ceasefire as an attempt to give Russia a break. This will help Moscow consolidate its control over occupied Ukrainian territories and rebuild its combat forces.

“Do not fall for the false equivalence of calls from both sides for a cessation of hostilities,” the head of the US State Department said in his speech at a meeting of the UN Security Council.

According to him, abstaining or calling for peace at all costs is an endorsement of the actions of the Russian authorities.

In turn, at a press conference in Kiev, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyyyy said he “would like to believe” that Beijing is interested in a “just world” and specified that he was ready to consider the Chinese initiative. At the same time, he does not intend to start negotiations with Russia.

Earlier, Glavny regional wrote that China is trying to play a peacemaker role in Ukraine in an attempt to revive trade with the West.
