Cavusoglu, Turkish Foreign Minister: Ankara still cannot approve Sweden’s NATO membership

Turkey is still unable to approve Sweden’s application for NATO membership. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said this at a joint press conference with his Hungarian counterpart on Monday.

“Some commitments have been made by Sweden and Finland as part of their intention to join NATO. On the part of Sweden, we do not see the implementation of all the measures, ”said the politician quoted by RIA Novosti.

Cavusoglu noted that some obligations were nevertheless fulfilled, in particular, changes were made to the constitution. But the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, recognized as a terrorist in Turkey, is still active in Sweden, complained the Turkish minister.

At present, only Hungary and Turkey, out of 30 countries, have not ratified Finland’s and Sweden’s applications for NATO membership.
