February 28, 2023, 10:18 p.m. – Public Information Service – TEH – Congressman Adam Smith, representing Washington State, in the hearings taking place on Tuesday, Feb. 28, called the possible sending of US F-16 fighters to Ukraine an unreasonable waste of resources. It is reported by TASS.
“We are thinking about it and only sending what they really need to Ukraine,” the news agency quoted Smith as saying. He pointed out that it is irrational to send whatever is requested.
As an example, he cited the situation with the F-16, “which everyone has been obsessed with for the past few weeks.” The congressman noted that he had discussed this issue at the Pentagon. At best, a few fighters could be sent to Ukraine within a year. At the same time, it will be necessary to train pilots, mechanics, as well as equip airfields and supply spare parts.
“We analyzed this and decided it was a reckless use of the resources needed to win the battle,” Smith said, as quoted by the publication.
Earlier it was reported that according to Michael McCall, head of the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, the issue of supplying F-16 fighter jets to Kiev was not removed from the agenda.
