Qatar Energy’s North Field Expansion Project on track to meet global LNG demand

– Published on:

His Excellency Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, recently visited the Ras Laffan Industrial City sites to observe the progress of the North Field Expansion Project. The project aims to increase the production capacity of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the State of Qatar from 77 million tons per year to 126 million tons per year by 2027. The Minister praised the project’s development and expressed his satisfaction with the progress made despite the challenges of a global pandemic and geopolitical pressures.

During the visit, the Minister and his team were briefed on the project’s progress, including the challenges faced by the teams working on the project. The North Field Expansion Project includes six new LNG production lines, each with a production capacity of 8 million tons per year. Contracts for four production lines have already been awarded, and contracts for the remaining two lines will be awarded soon.

The expansion will add over 48 million tons annually to the world’s LNG supplies, and production from the Northeast Field Expansion Project is scheduled to start at the end of 2025. The project includes the North East Field and North South Field expansion projects, making it the largest LNG project the industry has ever seen.

The North Field Expansion Project also includes the highest health, safety, and environment standards, including carbon capture and sequestration, to minimize the project’s carbon emissions. The Minister expressed his gratitude to the partners, engineering, procurement, and construction contractors, and project teams involved in the project for their efforts in implementing it.

The North Field Expansion Project aims to develop Qatari nationals and their capabilities, essential to maintaining Qatar’s leading position in developing and supplying the global market with LNG. The project reinforces the country’s position as a leading producer of LNG and plays a significant role in meeting the growing global demand for natural gas.

In conclusion, the North Field Expansion Project is making great strides towards its goals, and the project’s progress is testament to the dedication and hard work of all those involved in its implementation. It is a crucial step in meeting the world’s growing demand for natural gas and will help maintain Qatar’s leading position in the global market.
