Dagestan began recording Caspian seals in the Red Book

According to the Kaspiysk 24 channel, in Dagestan a count of the number of individuals of the Red Book seals in the Caspian Sea has begun.

Recall that in recent months a large number of dead seals have twice washed up on the shores of the Caspian Sea in Dagestan.

The first time happened in December 2022, the second time in January 2023.

The exact cause of the seals’ death has not been established; according to one version, the mass death could be due to the release of methane gas into the sea.
