The Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD) organized an open discussion, in cooperation with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, Qatar Science and Technology Park, and the Global Carbon Footprint Council, on the sustainability legacy of the FIFA,Football,Soccer World Cup Qatar 2022, by exchanging ideas and visions on the means by which It was undertaken by the State of Qatar to fulfill its ambitious commitment to present an exceptional carbon-neutral tournament and build a sustainable legacy for future generations. The workshop is an attempt to promote knowledge transfer and exchange of experiences on sustainability best practices. Senior leaders in private and public institutions and companies participated in the panel discussion, as well as a group of specialists and experts in the field of sustainability, financing carbon credits, providers of solutions and programs related to reducing carbon emissions, innovators and specialists in this field, who directly participated in the projects of the 2022 World Cup.

Commenting on the organization of this panel discussion, Dr. Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Horr, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Gulf Organization for Research and Development, said: “Qatar has prepared future plans to reduce climate pollution and carbon emissions, long before it won the hosting of the World Cup, but it is certain that The opportunity to host this most watched sporting event in the world has contributed to accelerating our progress in this important field. From the beginning, we believed that the tournament could be a catalyst for the green transition, not only in the State of Qatar, but also all over the world ». .

Knowledge exchange He added: “This event aims to exchange knowledge and ideas, as well as showcase the green initiatives that we participated in with the support of the Sustainability Department of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, and by sharing ideas on the means by which Qatar has achieved its ambitious goals in the field of sustainability, we hope to inspire and empower others in taking action towards a more low-carbon future, and at the same time, we remain committed to ensuring that Qatar 2022’s sustainability legacy continues for years to come.” Bodour Al-Meer, Executive Director of the Sustainability Department at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, said: We always knew that hosting the FIFA,Football,Soccer World Cup in Qatar was an opportunity to design and implement projects that reduce the environmental impact during the tournament and leave a sustainable legacy at the same time. A key aspect of our strategy has been the green building programme, and we are proud that all stadiums have GSAS certifications for design, construction, construction and operation management. The Qatar World Cup Sustainability Program was the first to be jointly developed and delivered by the host country and FIFA,Football,Soccer. Through this collaboration, we were able to make a positive impact throughout the stages of preparation, operations and legacy.

In turn, Mr. Federico Addici, Head of the Sustainability and Environment Department at the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA,Football,Soccer), confirmed, saying: “We, as a team, presented a World Cup tournament that showed many exceptions in various areas related to the tournament, and we also presented a tournament that implemented a sustainability strategy that is the most comprehensive for the largest A sporting event at all, pointing out that the World Cup will not only leave a positive legacy for sustainability in Qatar, but will also affect the way similar tournaments and events will be held around the world, and Qatar’s influence will remain tangible in future FIFA,Football,Soccer World Cup tournaments. For his part, Mr. Yousef Al-Salhi, Executive Director of Qatar Science and Technology Park, said: There is no doubt that the State of Qatar has made great strides in implementing the sustainability program to achieve economic development over the past decade.
