The Ministry of the Interior, represented by the General Traffic Department, celebrates the thirty-fifth Traffic Week of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, which will be held from March 5 to March 11, under the slogan (Your life is a trust).

Brigadier General Mohammed Abdullah Al-Shahwani, Acting Director General of Traffic, said: The State of Qatar is at the forefront of the Gulf countries that have committed themselves to celebrating the Gulf Traffic Week, since the approval of the third meeting of Their Highnesses and Excellencies the Interior Ministers of the GCC states, in November 1983, to establish the Gulf Traffic Week, recognizing the importance of Traffic safety, and raising awareness of traffic rules and laws.

He stressed that the State of Qatar has achieved positive results in the field of road safety over the past years, as a result of the executive measures that have been taken in this field, which made it a leader in the Middle East countries in the field of traffic safety, expressing his hope that the Gulf Traffic Week will achieve this year. Its objectives are to maintain the security and safety of road users.

He referred to the efforts made by the General Traffic Department in the field of achieving road safety and upgrading the level of traffic culture among road users, based on what was assigned to it from the executive plans of the national strategy for traffic safety, and strengthening its role related to traffic management, road control, and law enforcement.

Brigadier Al Shahwani explained that the celebration of the Gulf Traffic Week is one of the occasions through which the General Traffic Department seeks to shed light on traffic safety issues, educate all members of society on the importance of concerted efforts, and integrate roles with the concerned institutions in the country to reduce traffic accidents and the social risks they cause. And health, and material losses, the negative effects of which are reflected on everyone.

It is noteworthy that the celebration of the Gulf Traffic Week this year includes a number of events and activities at the headquarters of driving schools and the partners of the General Traffic Department, where coordination has been made with a number of schools to hold a series of meetings and lectures with the aim of raising the efficiency of new drivers, with regard to the requirements of safe driving, and introducing Traffic Law, the most common traffic violations and the importance of avoiding them, and urging them to adhere to the correct traffic behaviors.


The celebration includes activities directed to the public of all categories, which will be launched next Wednesday in Souq Waqif, with the participation of a number of partners of the General Traffic Department, which includes a number of educational awareness activities aimed at consolidating traffic awareness among members of society.

The Department, represented by the Traffic Awareness Department, launched an awareness campaign on its accounts on social media, which will continue throughout the Gulf Traffic Week, to emphasize the importance of safety rules, and shed light on the serious effects and consequences resulting from violating traffic rules and laws, as the General Traffic Department seeks to implement this campaign. To reach the largest segment of society, especially the youth, to achieve the desired goal of increasing traffic awareness among vehicle drivers and road users.
