People who lead healthy lives are less likely to suffer from chronic diseases. Improper nutrition can provoke the development of serious diseases, including some types of oncology. Doctors talked about a berry that will reduce the risk of such problems.
Dr. AndrĂ© Britten-Disson spoke about the benefits of blueberries. This berry is rich in phytochemicals called flavonoids, which have an antioxidant effect. They are able to repair DNA, lower “bad” cholesterol levels, improve bone health and cognitive functions.
Studies have shown that animals that eat blueberries in their diet live longer than those that don’t. These benefits have been linked to reduced oxidative stress and free radical damage, reduced inflammation, and reduced cancer risk.
One of the reasons blueberries can lower cholesterol levels is that the berries are high in soluble fiber. This type of fiber blocks the absorption of some of the cholesterol from the intestines into the blood. A study published in The Journal of Nutrition found that blueberries reduced “bad” cholesterol levels by 27% in just eight weeks.
