The leader of the Republican People’s Party, Kemal Kılıçdaroglu, who represents the opposition forces in the presidential elections in Turkey, is ready to maintain partnership relations with Russia at the level of institutions, not heads of state. The politician’s words were quoted by the party’s deputy leader for international relations, Unal Cheviköz.

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu will become the only Popular Alliance candidate in the presidential elections in Turkey. The leaders of the five opposition parties that make up the political association, as well as the mayors of Ankara and Istanbul, in the event of their leader’s victory, will occupy the posts of vice-presidents.

The alliance’s electoral manifesto speaks of strengthening ties with Russia through a balanced and constructive dialogue at the institutional level. The new authorities intend to build allied relations with the United States on the basis of mutual trust.

Chevikyoza stressed that if the opposition wins the elections, the dialogue with the Russian Federation will be built at the level of institutions, and not of the leaders of the countries.

General elections in Turkey are scheduled for May 14, 2023. The current President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has already presented his Republican Alliance candidacy. According to analysts, in the context of this internal political struggle, Turkey is experiencing great difficulties related to the consequences of the earthquakes.
