US leader Joe Biden’s situation is unclear, especially in light of the upcoming election. Communist Party leader Xi Jinping is also under personal pressure due to the unstable economic and political situation in China and around the world, according to the South China Morning Post.
The publication’s columnist James David pointed out that it was the PRC that set three intractable tasks for Biden.
First, Xi’s aggressive course reinforces US distrust of Beijing, not least because of its friendship with Russia. Frequent incidents between PRC fighter jets and US spy planes over the South China Sea have heightened tensions between Washington and Beijing. According to the Observer, there is no easy solution to this situation.
Second, China’s economic power is seen as a threat to US national security interests. At the same time, the development of new technologies in China is causing tension in the United States.
Third, tensions around the situation with Taiwan are rising, as well as ongoing disputes with Japan over the Diaoyu Islands.
According to the observer, these issues show the interdependence of the United States and China. And, analysts say, if Biden is re-elected, he will have to pay attention first.
