Currently, 294,000 women live in Karelia, the average age of a woman is 45 years old. Our daughters generally marry between the ages of 20 and 30 and have children between the ages of 25 and 35.
Kareliastat has shared some interesting statistics that reflect the changes that have taken place with Karelian women over the past hundred years. The material was prepared on the basis of the population censuses of 1897, 1979 and 2020.
Thus, in the 19th century, 56% of women founded a family, in the 20th century, 58% of girls found a husband, and in the 21st century, the number of married women fell to 50%. If in the 19th century only 10% of literate women lived in the region, today 74% have higher and secondary professional education. Of course, work also changed: in 1897 only 10% of women were employed and 89% were peasants, while in 1979 60% of women became workers and 52% were employed in the national economy. Today, 46% of women in Karelia are employed in the economy and 26% in commerce and education.
