Rome prosecutors are imploring a life sentence for an Italian naval officer accused of ‘pro-Russian espionage’.

The Nova news agency reported that the military prosecutor’s office in Rome had requested life imprisonment for Italian naval officer Walter Biot, accused of spying for the Russian Federation.

On March 30, 2021, the Carabinieri arrested a Russian Armed Forces officer accredited to the Embassy in Rome and a second-rank Italian Navy captain, Walter Biot, on March 30, 2021, allegedly immediately after the secret documents were transferred. by an Italian officer in exchange for 5,000 euros. The Italian was then taken into custody and two employees of the military attaché at the Russian Embassy were expelled by the Italian authorities.

Italian prosecutors today charged the officer with ‘obtaining secret information for the purpose of espionage’, ‘obtaining and disclosing confidential information’ and ‘taking photographs for the purpose of espionage’.

According to the Italian sailor’s lawyer, the court verdict could follow today.
