The document was presented in February, the author of this initiative is a member of the House of Representatives, Republican Matt Goetz. According to him, in December 2022, about 900 American soldiers were in Syria. The lawmaker pointed out that Congress did not authorize the use of US forces in battles on Syrian territory.
According to Goetz, the United States is not waging war on or alongside Damascus. “Why are we carrying out dangerous military operations there? President Joe Biden must withdraw all US forces from Syria,” the politician said.
Earlier, it was reported that in February the US military captured the local leader of the Islamic State group (recognized as a terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation) in northeast Syria. According to the US military command in the Middle East, the militant named Batar “is involved in the planning of attacks on detention centers and the manufacture of improvised explosive devices”.
