The nuclear power plant is completely de-energized from external sources. Two power units – the fifth and the sixth – are transferred to cold shutdown mode, Rogov pointed out. What threatens such a situation?

Alexander Borovoy, adviser to the management of the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute”:
- When the reactor is disconnected from the power supply, its cooling stops immediately. In principle, designers provide for such an option, and autonomous diesel generators are connected to supply water. But they can work for a relatively short time, so there is an urgent need to restore the fixed power supply. But if that doesn’t work or something happens to the diesel generators, then things are bad. In a word, the disconnection of the nuclear power plant from the power grid threatens very serious consequences.
