The incident occurred in the Oktyabrsky district of the Volgograd region.
According to the regional court, in May 2021, the convict picked up scrap metal and found an RGD-33 defensive hand grenade in the ground. He took the explosive device with him and left it in his basement.
On June 3, during a search, the police found and seized this grenade from a man. In addition, bags of cannabis were seized. The defendant picked up the drugs in his yard, dried them and began storing them in a barn for his personal use.
Oktyabrsky District Court declared the perpetrator guilty under Part 1 of Art. 222.1 and part 2 of article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (2 episodes). He was sentenced to a term of imprisonment of 7 years and 6 months in a penal colony with a fine of 10,000 rubles.
The convicted person and his lawyer appealed the verdict. The man requested the annulment of the adopted judicial act and the referral of the case to the prosecutor. He believes the criminal case was fabricated. The defender asked for the verdict to be set aside and the case sent back for a new trial.
However, the appeals court upheld the district court’s decision.
