There are more vacancies on the German labor market today than at any other time in the history of the Federal Republic.
There were 1.98 million vacancies in the country in the fourth quarter of 2022, according to the Institute for Employment Research (IAB), based on data from its latest employment survey. This is 160,000, or 6.6% more than in the previous quarter and 17.5% more than in the last quarter of 2021.
High competition
“The demand for personnel in Germany has reached a new all-time high with around two million vacancies. The vast majority of vacancies can be closed immediately, indicating a serious struggle for suitable staff in many companies,” said IAB labor market researcher Alexander Kubis.
The Employment Survey, conducted four times a year, lists not only the vacancies announced by the employment agencies, but also all the job vacancies available in thousands of companies.
