Several assaults in central Reykjavík were reported to police last night, three of them large scale. This is stated in the police diary this morning, but the attacks are not reported further. The newspaper also says:

“A total of around 40 cases were recorded in the police apparatus during the night shift, among other things due to collective gatherings in the city center and several fights. The weather was cold, but customers of entertainment venues fireworks were lit near the police station around midnight, and passers-by could see fireworks for a while, but the use of fireworks is not allowed at this time of year.

Explosions were reported at Vatnsendaskóli in Kópavogur, and there were young people shooting fireworks, according to the informant, but they were gone when the police arrived.

There was a considerable amount of police preparation due to a traffic accident on Suðurlandsvegur, but this is not reported in more detail in the newspaper.
