Navalny, directed by Daniel Roer, won the Oscar for Best Documentary. The film covers the period from when politician Alexei Navalny emerged from a coma at the Berlin Charité clinic after being poisoned in August 2020 until his return to Russia in January 2021.
In the fight for the prize, Navalny outperformed the films Everything That Breathes, All Beauty and Bloodshed, Fire of Love and House of Pieces.
The ceremony was attended by Alexei Navalny’s wife, Yulia, as well as her daughter and son.
Navalny’s world premiere was in January 2022 at the Sundance Film Festival, where it received the Audience Award. The film was shot on the Max Original platform and with the support of CNN. The tape also received a British Academy Film Award (BAFTA).
In Russia, “Navalny is shown” was not shown. Amediateka, which distributes HBO films and series in the country, said it has no intention of negotiating to buy the rights to the film.
