US steps up fight against Russian oligarchs

Washington is taking increased action to crack down on Russian oligarchs, imposing sanctions on those who try to help Russian citizens avoid sanctions. The country’s financial service and law enforcement agencies actively participate in the work. This is reported by the Washington Post.

First of all, the Americans are trying to liquidate the assets of the oligarchs, to extend restrictions for people helping Russian citizens to evade sanctions, and also to abolish legislative methods that facilitate financial activities through front legal entities.

It is also planned to implement a number of measures to prevent the operations of the oligarchs of the Russian Federation in the US real estate market in order to launder money. In particular, the obligation to disclose the true owner of real estate will be introduced.

In the future, the funds thus seized from the oligarchs of Russia should be transferred to help Ukraine. At the same time, it is stated that these measures will be taken in strict compliance with the norms of the law.

At the same time, the control of American goods exported to the Russian Federation will be reinforced.

According to the US Treasury, more than 58 billion euros in assets of Russian citizens who fell under sanctions have been stopped or frozen around the world.
