A prosecutorial action was initiated against a Russian individual due to an allegedly humorous quip.

A resident of the city of Kasimov, Ryazan region, became the accused in the case under the article on discrediting the RF armed forces. The investigation is being carried out by the Regional Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs under a criminal article, since last summer a citizen was already brought to administrative liability for a similar offense, in accordance with the legislation in force.

Lawyer Andrey Kuryatnikov informed RBC that his client is charged under Part 1 of Art. 280.3 due to the publication of a joke on the social network. According to the lawyer, the “illegal” anecdote was published by his client on November 9, 2022, the day the Russian Defense Ministry announced the withdrawal of troops from Kherson.

“Indeed, the reason was the publication of an anecdote in VK,” the lawyer said.

Under this article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the accused faces a fine of 100-300 thousand rubles or imprisonment for up to three years. Last summer, in connection with an administrative case, a citizen was fined 30,000 rubles.
