Alexei Zhamnov has been appointed head coach of Spartak Moscow.
This was reported by the club’s press service, without specifying the duration of the contract.
According to the head of the Spartak Supervisory Board Oleg Usachyov, Zhamnov faces the task of bringing the reds and whites to high positions in the KHL, paying attention to the development of young hockey players in the club system.
“I am also sure that under his leadership our team will show meaningful and interesting hockey, which, in turn, will not leave indifferent the many fans of Spartak Moscow,” Usachev said.
Today Zhamnov is an adviser to the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Spartak. Moreover, he is the head coach of the Russian national team: his contract runs until June.
In 2018–19, Zhamnov was a member of the Red and White coaching staff and acted as head coach.
In the 2022/23 season, Spartak took 9th place in the KHL Western Conference and did not reach the playoffs.
Alexei Kudashov’s future at Dynamo Moscow will be determined on March 17
