A draft law on gradually increasing the age limit for military service has been submitted to the State Duma.

Deputies of the State Duma, led by Chairman of the Defense Committee Andrei Kartapolov, submitted for consideration a draft law on raising the age of the draft military service to 21 years.

It is proposed to introduce the increase in stages. Thus, in 2024, young people aged 19 to 30 will be able to be called up for military service. Then, the initial draft age will be increased by an additional year. And in 2026, men aged 21 to 30 will be called up.

However, despite the increase in the draft age, those who wish to do so will be able to serve, as before, from the age of 18.

According to the explanatory note, the innovations will eliminate the need for school children and students to visit military registration and enlistment offices to provide a reprieve from military service.
