Actor Hugh Grant has the internet on edge after an interview went viral in which he chatted with model Ashley Graham on the champagne carpet at the Oscars earlier this week.
Many people found the interview very embarrassing. Grant lacked improvisation and netizens believed he had given up on his life. Some say he was downright rude.
I don’t get that from Hugh Grant. If you don’t want to be interviewed, don’t take the microphone, smile politely and keep walking. Congratulations to you @ashleygraham to repeatedly try to get something interesting out of him. #Oscars pic.twitter.com/Q2AeUpPGRi

The interview started off inauspiciously when Graham called Grant an “Oscar veteran,” but Grant didn’t seem to like the nickname. Then Graham asked what Grant loved most about the Oscar.
“It’s interesting, all of humanity is here. It’s Vanity Fair,” Grant said, referencing William Makepeace Thackeray’s Vanity Fair book.
Graham misunderstood this reference and thought Grant was referring to the Vanity Fair after-party after the Oscars.
Graham then asked Grant what he was most looking forward to seeing at the festival and if he particularly liked any of the nominees.
“No one in particular,” Grant said, revealing little.
Graham then turned his attention to what Grant was wearing, then wanted to know which designer had designed his clothes.
“My suit,” Grant snapped at the man.
Graham attempted to salvage the interview, which had become half-to-full, embarrassing, and asked Grant if he wouldn’t have liked to be in the movie Knives Out: Glass Onion. Grant played a small part and was stunned for a few seconds.
Grant replied, “Well, I’m barely into it. I was in it for about three seconds.”
Graham: “Yeah, but it was still fun, wasn’t it? did you have fun
Grant: “Ehhh…almost”
It was like that now. Internet users were left speechless by the interview. They split into factions, with one group believing Grant had been unusually rude, while the other group believed Graham had provoked himself by calling Grant an old man, talking about a movie he was barely in, without realizing its reference to the classic book. and trying to get him to talk about his clothes. There is actually a third group that points out that Grant is purely British and acted as such.
TMZ caught up with Graham and asked her what she thought.
“You know what, my mom told me to kill people with love, so here you go.”

Hugh Grant is the biggest D bag for this interview. Hugh, if you don’t want to be here, go home. Worst Oscars interview ever. #Oscars #Oscars2023 #HughGrant pic.twitter.com/Yx7MWbav4q

Hugh Grant, speaking to Ashley Graham, gives a masterclass in apathy here. It references the literary classic Vanity Fair, a novel about the empty and superficial nature of society. Graham, thinks he’s referring to the “magazine”. Grant exposes the utter banality of today’s society. pic.twitter.com/Xn70keGdZP

The discussion of the Hugh Grant vs. Ashley Graham interview truly captures the separation between our two countries.
The man makes dry and acerbic comments, with references to classic literature, in response to bland questions. Accused of being rude by American voices and iconic by British voices.

Alexa show me British understatement vs American enthusiasm and make it Hugh Grant 😂 #Oscars95pic.twitter.com/WSkR81lwvD

In some ways, it is rather reassuring to perceive that Britain has not fully transformed into the United States, culturally – as demonstrated by the reactions to the Hugh Grant/Ashley Graham interview (Americans think that he was rude, Brits know he just wasn’t wrong).

Hugh Grant and Ashley Graham’s red carpet exchange about ‘Vanity Fair’ (he was talking about the 1848 novel about shallow society, she thought he was referring to the 2023 magazine after party) is my favorite #Oscars instant of all time.

Did anyone catch the look Hugh Grant just gave after that live Oscars interview? Was he mad that she called him an Oscar “veteran” or was he just mad at the world? pic.twitter.com/VVFAlYpH51
