Most Länder want to adapt the planned 49-Euro-Ticket and offer additional benefits to certain user groups.
The 49-Euro-Ticket, initially valid nationwide in local and regional transport until 2025, is due to be introduced in May. In the coming days, the Bundestag will decide on the federal government’s share of its funding.
There will be no discounted social tickets. According to a survey conducted by Evangelische Pressedienst (epd) among the transport ministries of all federal states, each of them approaches the offer of discounted tickets in its own way.
Some federal states want to make the 49 euro ticket cheaper for young people, others offer state-wide social tickets, and some start from discounts that municipalities or transport associations already offer to certain groups of population.
Deutschlandticket for young people will cost in Saarland and Bavaria – 30.40 euros and 29 euros respectively. Thuringia wants to offer it to young people with a place of study and residence in Bavaria – for 28 euros, but there is no final decision on this yet. The costs of the benefits of the 49-Euro-Ticket are financed exclusively from the budget of the federal states.
The federal government allocates 1.5 billion euros per year to compensate for half of the loss of earnings for transport companies.
