The International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA,Football,Soccer,Football,Soccer) officially announced the adoption of the 2026 World Cup system, with the participation of 48 teams.
According to the new system, the participating teams will be divided into 12 groups comprising 4 teams, and the first and second of each group, in addition to the best 8 teams in third place, will qualify for the round of 32.
The new version will consist of 104 matches instead of 64 matches.
The Qatar World Cup 2022 became the last edition to witness the participation of 32 teams in the World Cup, which began for the first time since France 1998.
FIFA,Football,Soccer,Football,Soccer did not officially reveal the number of seats in each continent, but press reports indicated the division of the qualified teams, with 16 from Europe, 9 from Africa, 6 from Asia, 6 from North America, the same number from South America, 2 from Oceania, and two seats through the global supplement, in addition to Tournament host.
