The players of the FRAM women’s handball championship team released a statement on <a target=”_blank” href=”https://www.instagram.com/framkisur/?utm_source=ig_embed&ig_rid=fc22ec78-c3c1-43ad-9cec-a4bd1f3a8edd” rel=”noopener”>instagram</a> where the handball movement’s lack of reaction to indecency and insults towards women and team staff is condemned. According to the website <a target=”_blank” href=”https://handbolti.is/fordaemda-vidbragdsleysi-handknattleikshreyfingarinnar-vid-osaemilegri-hegdun-og-brotum/?fbclid=IwAR3WEduweLzGWm5Kt-TliIs9gxksXo0cCAOfO6HVhSBeTmpYl_9waNrG6pY” rel=”noopener”>handbolti.is</a> The reason for this statement is an incident in recent days where Sigurður Bragason, coach of the ĂŤBV women’s team, was guilty of hitting the back of a Vals employee after a match between ĂŤBV and Vals. Sigurður was banned for two games for this behavior.
“There were high expectations among sportswomen after #metoo, that the movement would eradicate all the harassment and violence that too many sportswomen and staff have had to experience from the start. Unfortunately, experience shows us that these hopes do not materialize. will not achieve,” the statement read, which can be read in full below.
