Olena Kolbasnikova, a Ukrainian citizen living in Cologne and organizer of large pro-Russian demonstrations in Germany, has applied for Russian citizenship while awaiting trial. She is accused of “supporting crimes” after statements on the Ukrainian conflict, writes RIA Novosti. German media reported that Kolbasnikova will appear in court at the end of March.

A Ukrainian native of Dnepropetrovsk is accused of speaking at a rally. She said she does not see Russia as an aggressor in the Ukrainian conflict. Kolbasnikova faces a fine and three years in prison.

  • The German authorities accuse me of supporting the Russian Federation and inciting war, encouraging and approving military actions. Although I never supported the war, and my personal attitude towards Russia and its actions is my personal right, since we live in a free and democratic Germany, the woman said.

The defendant said that she was born on the territory of the Soviet Union and considered Moscow to be the state capital. She added that she had applied for Russian citizenship.

Kolbasnikova expects to win the case. His lawyer specializes in the protection of human rights and the fight against Russophobia. Before the hearing, Elena Kolbasnikova plans to hold a rally with laying of flowers at the monument to Soviet soldiers.
