Russian handball player, Olympic champion Anna Vyakhireva said she had interrupted her career due to mental exhaustion.
Vyakhireva took a career break after the August 2021 Summer Olympics, winning silver with the Russian team.
“I was in this state for a year and a half. Not everyone is in such an acute phase, but there were the last drops at the Olympics,” Sports.ru quotes.
According to the handball player, she admitted that she would not return to the sport.
“I was disgusted. I didn’t want to do anything. At that point, I didn’t know if the urge would come back, but I was ready for it to be, there would be no more handball in my life,” she said. .
Vyakhireva returned to the game in March 2022 and now plays for Norwegian Kristansand.
“I just don’t know how to do anything else and it’s very difficult to sit at home. Handball needs me and I need it,” concluded the Olympic champion.
