Cucumbers and tomatoes can be dangerous. According RG.RU, the danger is not the vegetables themselves, but the nitrates they contain. Experts indicate that they are able to turn into nitrites in the body. These substances interact with stomach acid, form nitrosamines, which have a carcinogenic effect.
Also, after some homemade dishes, there may be a feeling of bloating, diarrhea and pain. This may indicate that the amount of nitrates in the products is out of scale. They can also be present in cucumbers and tomatoes. Several signs indicate an excessive content of these substances.
First of all, these substances are more abundant in tomatoes with thick skin, white flesh and thick veins. Tomatoes should be soaked in water for 30-40 minutes before cooking.
The nitrate content can be judged by the color of cucumbers – the darker it is, the more susceptible they are.
