The 12th International Conference on Translation kicked off yesterday, with the participation of a group of experts and specialists in translation sciences from Qatar and the world. The overlapping concepts between translation and creativity. Dr. Amal Al-Malki, Founding Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and Head of the Translation Studies Institute at Hamad Bin Khalifa University at Qatar Foundation, confirmed in her opening speech that the conference is an invitation to reinvent translation and think about a quantum leap possible through creativity and to present translation studies from a multidisciplinary perspective, allowing creativity to work. As an effective force and engine, noting that the conference is a unique opportunity because it is the first direct meeting with specialists after the end of the Covid-19 pandemic, considering the Institute as a multicultural center, as the Institute is one of the most diverse colleges in Hamad Bin Khalifa University. She pointed out that the institute celebrates its establishment 10 years ago by hosting a distinguished group of specialists. Dr. said. Amal Al-Maliki: The Translation Studies Institute was established as a specialized educational center with the aim of strengthening communication with cultures to find new solutions to the challenges facing societies, and our role in making the 2022 World Cup more accessible was one of the examples that we are proud of, adding that the institute has trained and prepared many of those They provided communication and accessibility services during the huge sporting event from translators and interpreters, and it was an advanced and extraordinary cross-cultural experience. She noted that the faculty members, graduates and students of the Institute rose to the level of the challenge and served the country with all available capabilities. She pointed out that over the past ten years, the institute has established specialized and master’s programs in translation studies, audiovisual translation, and intercultural communication for more than 125 graduates and 28 students currently studying in the Department of Translation and Interpretation Studies. The institute has also attracted more than 14,000 learners among children, adolescents, and adults. . The conference sessions dealt with a number of working papers on translation and creativity, the concept and practice of creativity in Arabic and English translation, the concept of creativity in the thought of translation and beyond, and others.
