This indicator, which is issued by the Planning and Statistics Authority, reflects the details of the growth of the various industrial economic sectors that make up it, namely mining, with a relative importance of 82.46 percent, the manufacturing industry with a relative importance of 15.85 percent, electricity with a relative importance of 1.16 percent, and water with a relative importance of 0.53 percent.
The data of the Planning and Statistics Authority on this indicator, which was released today, indicates an increase in the mining and quarrying sector to 4.1 percent. . And compared to the same month of the previous year, i.e. January 2022, it is noted that there is a decrease in this sector by 3.3 percent.
The manufacturing sector recorded an increase of 2.4 percent in January 2023 compared to the previous month (December 2022). This occurred as a result of the increase in production in the following groups: the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products by 3.3 percent, followed by the refined petroleum products industry by 3.1 percent, and the metals industry. base metals (base metals) by 2.5 percent, and group print and reproduction recorded media by 0.6 percent.
As for the decline, it occurred in the manufacture of beverages by 9.7 percent, the manufacture of cement and other non-metallic mineral products by 3.3 percent, the manufacture of rubber and plastic products by 2.6 percent, and the manufacture of food products by 0.1 percent.
On the other hand, and in the same sector, and in terms of annual change, the index of the industrial sector increased by 3.8 percent from January 2022, as a result of the increase in production in the refined petroleum products industry by 18.1 percent, the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products by 4.8 percent, and the beverage industry by 4.8 percent. 3.5 percent, while the decrease in production was in the manufacture of cement and other non-metallic mineral products by 13.4 percent, the printing and reproduction of recorded media by 9.1 percent, the manufacture of rubber and plastics products by 4.6 percent, the manufacture of food products by 0.8 percent, and the manufacture of base metals (base metals). by 0.3 percent.
In the electricity, gas and steam supply sector, a decrease in production between January 2023 and December 2022 was observed by 15.6 percent, and when compared with January 2022, the increase was 7.1 percent.
As for the water supply sector, when comparing January 2023 with December 2022, a decrease in production was observed by 17.6 percent, and when compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, i.e. January 2022, the increase was 2.7 percent.
