German Fencing Federation (DFB) denied the holding of the Women’s World Cup in Tauberbischofsheim, scheduled for the first days of May.
This decision was taken after Russian and Belarusian athletes were allowed to participate in international competitions. In this regard, the president of the German Fencing Federation, Claudia Bockel, said that the decision had caused heated discussions both inside and outside the organization.
She also pointed out that the German Fencing Federation always stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people who are suffering from the fighting and that there are many open issues that make the tournament impossible.
“As before, we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine who are suffering from the fighting. We want to send a clear message that we would like a different outcome. We still see a lot of open questions…tournament.”
Recall that on March 10, at the FIE Congress, it was decided to allow fencers from Russia and Belarus to participate in international competitions, which were suspended in March 2022 in accordance with the recommendation of the IOC.
