According to the American edition of the New York Times, many Ukrainian servicemen end up in a hospital for the mentally ill after active hostilities.
Ukrainian hospitals cannot cope with the amount of psychiatric trauma, while commanders need their soldiers back, writes the American edition.
In its documents, the NYT cites the words of one of the former Ukrainian servicemen, Ruslan, 45, who was a bricklayer before the outbreak of hostilities. In Kherson he received a shock from a shell and now he has the same dream. In this dream he jumps into a trench, but it is not a trench, but a grave.
This is a consequence of strong psychological stress and lack of sleep for up to five days. Moreover, Ukrainian soldiers could go without provisions for a long time and even not eat for days.
Another Ukrainian soldier said he couldn’t sleep after returning from the front, and another Ukrainian said he was afraid of crowds.
