Martin Scorsese not only edits artistic films on a large scale, but also periodically turns to the documentary genre. As a general rule, to speak to the public about the musicians who inspire them and their work.
His new film in this category, Personality Crisis: One Night Only, is about New York Dolls frontman David Johansen. In the published video you can see archival footage with the participation of the group that became famous in the 70s, which launched Kiss, Sex Pistols, Ramones, Guns N’ Roses, Damned, Smiths and others in the musical arena.
“I have known David Johansen for decades and his music has been a cornerstone for me since listening to Dolls on Mean Streets (1973),” the director said in a press release. “Yesterday and today, David’s music expresses the energy and nerve of New York. I often go to his concerts and over the years I have learned where he draws his inspiration from. After seeing his show at the Carlile, I knew I had to make a film because it was amazing to see the evolution of his life and musical talent in such an intimate setting.”
Personality Crisis: One Night Only hits theaters April 14 on Showtime and later on digital platforms.
