Why Putin didn’t purge the elite, says expert

The patriotic and pro-state public demands that the country’s president carry out a large-scale purge of the elite in Russia at least from 2014.

This was said by economist Mikhail Khazin, according to the DEITA.RU news agency with reference to the “Moscow speaks” radio.

According to him, Vladimir Putin is well aware of the moods and aspirations of the vast majority of the country’s citizens, however, he does not begin to cleanse the representatives of the state apparatus for an extremely prosaic reason. The conditions are not yet in place for this, Khazin explained.

As the expert said, it has always been extremely important for the Russian leader to maintain the stability of the existing electricity system in the country, which, in turn, has ensured the absence of serious economic shocks like the devastation and the decline of the 90s.

It was on the basis of the “do no harm” consideration, as Khazin explained, that Putin never sought to use the elite cleaning tool as an effective way to improve the quality of public administration in Russia. To do this, he used other methods.

Even now, as the expert pointed out, the president in every way avoids a sharp assessment of the work and activities of his subordinates, as well as of the entire class of officials as a whole, precisely so as not to cause unnecessary tension among the bureaucratic strata.
