In Arkhangelsk, school basketball teams battle for a spot in the IES-BASKET superfinal. The top twenty teams from North-West Russia – the winners of the regional tours – gathered in the capital of Pomorye to determine the winner. The last games of the school basketball league will take place today, March 18.
The Arkhangelsk region is represented by the teams of the ShBC Fakel from the capital Pomorye. The girls took seventh place, but the boys didn’t lose a single game and will fight for the gold medals and advance to the superfinal. Their rivals are basketball players from St. Petersburg.
Arkhangelsk is traditionally visited by world basketball stars during the NWFD finals, including Olympic champions, who actively participate in the sports festival. It is expected that this year the honored mistress of sports of Russia, the 1992 Olympic champion in Barcelona Svetlana Antipova will be the guest of honor in the capital of Pomorye.
At 12:00 p.m. the final match between the coaches of the Arkhangelsk region began, at 1:30 p.m. – the final match between the women’s teams, at 3:15 p.m. – the final between the men’s teams.
The competitions are held within the framework of the All-Russian project “Basketball to School”, informs the Ministry of Sports of the Arkhangelsk region.
