French MEP Thierry Mariani has called the International Criminal Court’s decision on Vladimir Putin’s “arrest” warrant a propaganda campaign that has nothing to do with justice.
The MEP recalled that the powers of the ICC are not recognized by the three permanent members of the UN Security Council – Russia, China and the United States. Mariani added that the jurisdiction of the ICC also does not take into account a number of other powers, “including India”. In addition, he called absurd the allegations that this resolution could prevent the President of the Russian Federation from traveling abroad.
A day earlier, the ICC pre-trial chamber had issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Children’s Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova, accusing them of ‘illegal export of children from Ukraine’ .
The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, called the very wording of the question unacceptable – Moscow does not recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC. And all his decisions from the point of view of the law are insignificant, he stressed.
