St. Petersburg Deputy Governor Irina Potekhina named the preliminary cause of death of a 14-year-old girl who died after a physical education lesson. According to her, the high school student could have died of a rare genetic disease.
The drama in one of the city’s schools occurred earlier this week. The seventh-grader fell ill after jogging in class – the girl lost consciousness and an ambulance was immediately called for her. Unfortunately, the doctors could not help him: the child died during resuscitation.
“The final conclusion of the pathoanatomical examination is not yet ready – quite long additional studies are needed. But the preliminary cause of the child’s death is called a genetic disease, which medicine has not yet learned to treat,” Potekhina said.
She added that the girl did not show symptoms of a hidden illness. It can only be revealed during a special examination, which does not involve a standard school medical examination.
Earlier, “The Eastern Heraldin St. Petersburg” wrote that the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case after the death of a seventh-grader.
