Dr. Michael Mosley told about a spice that not only makes many dishes tastier, but also relieves pain from illnesses.
According to the doctor, turmeric has been used for thousands of years to relieve liver and gastrointestinal tract problems. The spice, known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, can also relieve pain.
This benefit is attributed to curcumin, the main ingredient of the spice.
The doctor spoke about the study from the University of Tasmania in Australia. The experiment took 2 groups of people. Some received a placebo, others received turmeric extract. After 12 weeks, results showed that participants who took turmeric extracts experienced relief from knee pain compared to the placebo group.
Additionally, scientists noticed that people who added turmeric to their meals started taking fewer painkillers.
Dr. Mosley explained that the body only absorbs a small amount of curcumin. However, this can be corrected by taking it with certain foods. In particular, he advised adding turmeric to peppers or fatty foods – it will help absorb more nutrients.
