The Constitutional Court in the State of Kuwait ruled, in its session today, to invalidate the 2022 National Assembly, for the invalidity of the decree dissolving the parliament, and decided to reinstate the 2020 parliament.
And the court decided in the operative part of the ruling, according to the Kuwait News Agency, to invalidate the entire election process that took place last September in the five constituencies, and to invalidate the membership of those who declared their victory in it, because of the invalidity of the dissolution of the National Assembly and the invalidity of the voters’ invitation to elect members of the National Assembly on the basis of which these elections took place, with the consequences. This has one of the effects, most notably that the dissolved parliament, by the power of the constitution, regains its constitutional authority, as if the solution did not exist.
According to the ruling, Marzouq Al-Ghanim will return as Speaker, and all deputies in the previous parliament will return to their seats.
In the first reaction to the Constitutional Court’s decision, Marzouq Al-Ghanim changed his personal identification on his official Twitter and Instagram accounts, to be (Speaker of the National Assembly).
On March 8, the Constitutional Court decided to reserve electoral appeals in all electoral districts for ruling on the 19th of the same month.
