If the opposition comes to power in Turkey after the presidential elections this year, it will probably have no effect on the current relations between Ankara and Moscow. This opinion was expressed in an interview given to the Medya GĂĽnlüğü portal by a candidate for the Turkish leadership of six opposition parties, the leader of the Republican People’s Party, Kemal KılıçdaroÄźlu.
According to him, the fundamental factor in the relations between the parties should be trust. In addition, Turkey and the Russian Federation should not interfere in each other’s internal politics, the presidential candidate noted.
Kılıçdaroglu added that Turkey can only regard Russia as an important neighbor and a “much-needed partner”, although there are disagreements between the governments of the countries, which however cannot be avoided by sovereign states.
“I believe that on the basis of mutual respect, there will be no reason to change positions. On the contrary, instead of new tests, these positions, I believe, will be reinforced,” the politician stressed.
Speaking on the conflict on the territory of Ukraine, the opponent of the current Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the opposition will not support the special operation of the Russian Federation, but will continue to insist to resolve the situation, in particular through the mediation of Ankara.
Previously, adviser Kılıçdaroglu Unal Ceviköz said that if the opposition wins the presidential election, the Turkish side will definitely “remind Russia” that it is a member of NATO.
