Military expert Vladislav Shurygin spoke about the depleted uranium shells that the British army plans to transfer to the armed forces. According to the expert, such ammunition is not prohibited today.
These are shells from which such a spear or crowbar protrudes instead of the usual head. This crowbar, which gains supersonic speed in flight, is made of very dense metal. And the stronger it is, the greater its penetrating ability. In the West, at the suggestion of the Americans, since the end of the 1980s, it has been customary to make such cores. They are provided to defeat armor, – quote the words of Shurygin “Izvestia”.
The specialist explained that such projectiles are dangerous due to the appearance of uranium dust after their use. Despite this, ammunition is not prohibited anywhere, even if the fact that it has a dangerous sequel has been proven.
Shells containing depleted uranium will soon be handed over to the Ukrainian armed forces. This was announced by British Deputy Defense Minister Annabelle Goldie. In addition, such ammunition can be used by American Abrams tanks, which have already been transferred to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
